Hillary Clinton: You Need Our Help. From the Women of the United States of America

Dear Hillary,
You need our help. Who are we? The women of America – of all ages, young and old. In Iowa, 35% of women caucused for Barack Obama. You got 30%. According to 2000 Census data, there are well over 100 Million of us. Where are we and why are we not coming out by the millions to support you? What can you do to change that?

Having a woman president is one of those holy grails that we have been striving to obtain for decades. We have achieved so much over this time. We proudly serve in the military; we are Congressmen, Senators, Governors, CEOs and the list goes on and on. So many women over these last few decades have worked so hard to allow us this opportunity – finally. It’s time for a woman president in the United States. It is amazing that even the Muslim, male dominated country of Pakistan had a female Prime Minister in Benazir Bhutto before the United States.

I am 41 and women around my age spent our most formative years in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s hearing messages that taught us we could do anything we wanted. We began to see strong, intelligent women succeeding where they previously hadn’t. They were our role models. We watched, we listened and we learned. We began going to college more than ever and we achieved our career goals. Younger women no longer give these opportunities a second thought.

Finally our time has come – the chance to elect the first female president. So, what is holding us back from supporting you? We just don’t think you get us. You aren’t speaking to us. Where is your passion for what you believe in? You can't have passion for empty promises - you have to believe them yourself.

What do we care about? First and foremost, we want whoever becomes President to know that we expect REAL change - not just the same old empty, broken campaign promises of the past. The status quo will no longer be tolerated. We want the nation, in a bi-partisan way, to come together to address many issues that affect all Americans. What do millions of us women care about?

First, it really bothers us that over 45 million Americans are without healthcare. This must change so that every single man, woman and child is covered. Next, we care about the environment. We want America to sign on to the Kyoto Protocol and take decisive steps now to address Global Warming. We are also saddened that America’s reputation around the world had been badly damaged over these last seven years. We want a President who will practice real diplomacy to help repair that damage.

We believe in the right to choose if we want to have an abortion. That right must be protected. We are worried about our aging parents who have or will develop diseases and ailments that could be cured through Stem Cell Research, which needs to be federally funded.

It is also time to begin discussing the epidemic of obesity which is spreading at alarming rates across this country for both children and adults. And last, but definitely not least, we need to FINALLY address the ever present and growing issue of poverty. Every single day, millions of Americans are going hungry to stay warm, or bundling up against the cold so they can eat. These two issues of obesity and poverty are very serious problems of opposite extremes that must be put to an end.

You need us, Hillary and we really want to support you. Try to avoid being the stereotypical politician and talk to us like a real person - a real woman.
Tell us why you deserve our support and our votes.

Sincerely,
Women of all ages of the United States of America
